://HACKER.

INT, COMPUTER ROOM, DAY
Camera scrolls left/right into room viewing the Monitors and computers. A black figure sits quietly next to a single computer Monitor, wearing black clothing and with his face masked with a Balaclava. The room is dark with the only light being the gaps between the black sun blinds. A voice is coming through a small phone sitting next to the figure.

??? (ZIP):
We both know what will happen if they find us
FIGURE (JACK):
I understand that but we’re too deep now we can’t go back
??? (ZIP):
*sigh* Jack, just be careful, okay
Jack:
Zip, calm down you don’t need to worry about me being discovered, just walk me through it

The camera pans out as it views around Jack who silently hacks at the computer terminal viewing the information displayed before him as the voice of Zip continues to guide Jack through the Hacking process while inserting different devices into the computer.

Zip:
Okay Jack, get into the password system, insert the device that looks like an Ipod and then insert the passwords I gave you. The device will take care of the rest, it’s got a worm on it that will handle the decoding, when it’s finished, download the files to that memory stick I gave you

Jack inserts the device into the computer and when the device is finished downloading it opens to a folder with files on it. Jack downloads the files onto a memory stick and slides it into his pocket.

Zip:
JACK!, Security has found you. They are en-route to your location, get out while you still can!

Jack:
Shit...

Jack moves off the computer terminal while he peeks through the door window outside, two security guards walk slowly towards the room.

Script analysis exercise

1. Is it the same as the script?

Not exactly, one section was apparently cut out which was something regarding a Hotel Lobby.

2. Any changes?

See Question 1

3. Does the script portray what you expect to see in the film?

Yes, the plot is detailed enough to spot the obvious points which make the plot critical to the movie. Now view the sequence again. This time looking at the dialogue. answer the following questions based on the script for each character.

1. What is their name?

Jerry Lundergaard under the guise of a Mr. Anderson.

Carl Showalter

Gaear Grimsrud

2. What type of words describes this person?

Jerry is shown to the wimpy, nervous businessman who has a certain sense of caution when talking to people. Such as apologizing a lot, pausing and stuttering his words when he talks.
Carl is shown cool headed and the brains of the outfit. Carl typically talks with words that concern the job, often sounding confused and somewhat to the point.
Gaear Grimsrud though only having one sentence in the script shows that he is the Brawn of the outfit, being mostly quiet.

3. Can you tell from this sequence the role of this character? i.e are they a protagonist/Antagonist?

It all seems neutral, all three characters act neutral however they all seem to be apart of the antagonist group in someway. But Neutral is the feeling in general.

4. How do you know this?

By the general tone of the three men, though Jerry sounds wimpy it sounds as if he’s harboring a dark secret, the two other men, Carl and Grimsrud however seem to be apart of the job. But the entire feeling of the conversation seems neutral at this point.

How the Character is Involved in the Story

Character's role in the thriller (Protagonist/antagonist etc.):

He is the main protagonist of the story and at first is a civilian that is recruited for a private Military Corporation, trained and exercised in Combat. His role in the Story is to function as a part of a team of specifically trained soldiers to combat an ever-growing Viral infection that turns those infected into decaying rabid monsters with little thought and emotion.

Scene where character first appears:

Is shown as an office worker based somewhere in Germany, where he first meets the infected persons of the Virus and where he shortly is found to be surviving the horrors of the virus and it’s monstrous creations.

Relationships with other characters:

1. Character's Name: -- Squad Member “Irish” - Carver respects Irish for his no bullshit attitude and generally active style. Over the course of various missions and off duty hours and assignments Carver’s interactivity with Irish is shown as a good drinking partner and Squad mate.

2. Character's Name: -- Squad Member “Monkey” - To Carver, Monkey shows an excellent character of leadership and courage while on duty. Off Duty he is shown as a shabby mild mannered man who Carver respects as a good friend throughout his career.

3. Character's Name: -- Squad member “Monk” - Was Carver’s partner throughout most of his time at the organisation and was considered to be his best friend. He sometimes had a good to bad relationship as Monk tended to drift from co-operative to rebellious personalities
.
How character is different at the end of the film from when the film began:

At the end of the Story, Carver has served many, many missions and has been through a colossal amount of action and glory and has seen the effect on the organisations plans. At the beginning, Carver had only so much confidence in his abilities as an office worker however with him being now a Special Forces Operative of a private military organisation his standards rose to a new level of confidence. Over time he successfully completed missions, failed missions, received medals and commendations, receiving Scars and injury’s including the loss of his left arm. The re-construction of his left arm with a cybernetic prosthetic, the destruction of several other major organisations and a seemly impossible trip to an alternate dimension. And ultimately his self sacrificing himself to take down an almost impossible foe.

1. Robert Neville – I Am Legend

Role in the Film?

Robert’s role is supposedly the only survivor left in New Work alive with his apparent immunity to a man made virus that was supposedly made to cure cancer but presumably a mutation occurred that caused the inhabitants to become rabid monsters of little thought and emotion and remaining purely on animal instinct. Robert Neville is shown trying to survive through the rough and deserted environment of New York while attempting to make a cure to the virus. After meeting two additional survivors who rescue him, he then sacrifices himself to save them and the possible cure to the virus.

What are his/her Flaws?

Roberts’s main flaw is he believes that he alone must cure the virus and refuses to leave until he completes his work and receive help from others; he dismisses other’s words saying that “It wasn’t supposed to work that way”. His other flaws are mostly due to him living alone during the most part, he is often found talking to himself and speaking to manikins to try and simulate speaking to living beings. However this slowly causes him to lose his mind.

How does the film relate to the Character?

Robert was a part of the people quarantining the city, a lieutenant colonel that was stationed to help stay behind and find a cure. Since he is the only one left alive in New York, he is determined to find a cure for the virus. The Film shows his survival and how he copes to survive and find a cure for the virus

Alice – Resident Evil

Role in the Film?

Alice is the primary antagonist; she was originally a security agent working for an organisation known as Umbrella, a genetic and chemical warfare organisation working under the front of a popular medical supplier, who had a massive underground lab under a mansion just out skirts of a city known as “Raccoon City”. After a freak accident, she loses her memory and after trying to de-activate a homicidal AI known as the Red Queen it becomes an epic survival to evade the monsters that are created from a virus called the T-Virus, which re-animates the dead.

What is his/her flaws?

Her primary flaw is that she has lost her memory and to an extent cannot remember much of her former past. She slowly regains her former skills however. She is somewhat short tempered and sometimes reacts without thinking which leads her in many frustrating situations.

How does the Film relate to the Character?

Alice is one of the many people that enter the lab, she is apparently a security agent that is willing to leak a sample of the “T-Virus” and expose Umbrella for what it really is, however after losing her memory she is required to survive alongside an Umbrella Search Team who must evade and run from the terrors and monsters that the T virus created. After she regains her past memories, she knows that there is an Anti-Virus that can cure her injured team mates. She soon manages to escape only to get captured again from an Umbrella biohazard Team.

Hans Gruber – Die Hard

Role in the Film?

Hans is the primary Antagonist of the film, being the leader and sole cohort of the entire operation. Hans’s role is to try and steal $640 Million bearer bonds from the Nakatomi corp. Hans orders terrorists to secure hostages, attack the L.A.P.D. and also attempt to drill their way through a vault to get access to the money.

What are his/her flaws?

Hans has a number of smaller flaws, one of which underestimating the Protagonists intervention in his affairs as well as an ego that interferes with how Hans operates. One flaw is his bad acting and trying to kill the protagonist with an empty pistol and not realizing this when he doesn’t even inspect the gun.

How does the film relate to the Character?

Hans is the main leader and the man responsible for the attack on the Nakatomi Building, the death of several of the hostages and Nakatomi staff not to mention he orders many of the Terrorists to attempt to kill the protagonist, John Mclane and failing. He eventually dies by the hands of the Protagonist by falling out a window on the 30th floor.

Yes I've got to update again *sigh*...

Learn the origin of the my site name SPAZU by looking at the every day sites section...

OOooorrr... look at the boring defination of a Thriller...

Short version: Designed to excite the person through action and suspense

Long Version:

A thriller is a genre that is meant to excite the person and is used in liturature, film and television. Thrillers have many sub genres but they are usually based upon the protagnist versus antagonist.

The protaganist is the good guy of the film, book or program and is usually trying to complete goals and defeat the antagonist.

The antaganist is the villain of the film, book, program and is usually planning or doing goals that are the opposite of the protaganist. There most common example is taking over the world.

The various sub genres include:

Action thriller - In which the work often features a race against the clock, contains lots of violence, and an obvious antagonist. These films usually contain large amounts of guns, explosions, and large elaborate set pieces for the action to take place.

Conspiracy thriller - In which the hero/heroine confronts a large, powerful group of enemies whose true extent only he/she recognizes.

Crime thriller - This particular genre is a hybrid type of both crime films and thrillers that offers a suspenseful account of a successful or failed crime or crimes. These films often focus on the criminal(s) rather than a policeman.

Horror thriller - In which conflict between the main characters are mental, emotional, and physical.

Techno-thriller - A work that usually focuses upon military action, in which technology (usually military technology) is described in detail and made essential to the reader's/viewer's understanding of the plot. Tom Clancy defined and popularized the genre with his The Hunt for Red October, and is considered to be the "Father of the Technothriller."
